Atlas Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible shingle repair materials across San Antonio, with most repairs running $350 to $850 installed depending on how many shingles failed and what’s going on underneath them. You’ll see your exact number in writing before we start. Most San Antonio homeowners discover a failed Atlas shingle the morning after a Hill Country windstorm, when a shingle is sitting in the flower bed and a bare patch of underlayment is staring up at the sky.
Shingles don’t usually fail silently. You’ll see granules piling up in gutters after rain, a shingle folded back like a dog-eared page, or a dark patch on the ceiling that wasn’t there last month. One loose Atlas shingle is a repair. A dozen loose shingles is a conversation about the roof’s overall condition, and we’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with before we ever set up a ladder.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To
Atlas makes several shingle lines that show up on San Antonio roofs, and the repair approach changes slightly depending on which one you have. The most common in our area are Atlas Pinnacle (their heavyweight architectural line), Atlas StormMaster Slate (a high-wind shingle popular after hail events), and Atlas GlassMaster (their standard three-tab). Pinnacle and StormMaster shingles are thicker, which affects how they seal and how readily a repair blends with the surrounding field.
The compatibility gotcha San Antonio homeowners hit most often: older Atlas three-tab shingles from the GlassMaster line have a narrower exposure than today’s architectural shingles, so matching color alone isn’t enough. We measure the shingle’s exposure and thickness before ordering or pulling from stock. For OEM versus aftermarket, we default to genuine Atlas materials when the roof is under warranty or the color match is finicky. When the roof is older and Atlas has discontinued the color, a quality aftermarket equivalent from our supplier network covers it honestly. Birchbark Roofing San Antonio is an independent roofing company, not affiliated with Atlas. We just know their product line well enough to match it properly.

Signs Your Atlas Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter after a storm. Atlas shingles lose granules as they age, but a sudden heavy deposit means the asphalt layer is degrading faster than it should. In San Antonio’s UV-heavy summers, a south-facing slope can shed granules years before the rest of the roof.
- A shingle flapping or folded back. The seal strip that holds the shingle’s bottom edge down has let go. This happens after enough thermal cycling in our hot-cold spring swings. One flapping shingle breaks the seal of the shingles around it if left alone.
- Nail pops pushing the shingle upward. Nails backing out create a small tent in the shingle surface. Water pools around the raised nail head, and eventually the shingle splits at that point.
- Cracks across the shingle face. Hairline cracks on south and west exposures are common by year 12 to 15 in San Antonio, even on well-installed Atlas roofs. The shingle’s oil content cooks out in the sun, making it brittle instead of flexible.
- Dark streaks or stains on the ceiling. This is the one we never want homeowners to wait on. By the time water is leaving a mark inside, the decking below the shingle may already be soft. We treat any ceiling stain as an active leak until proven otherwise.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a straightforward Atlas shingle repair in San Antonio, most jobs land between $350 and $850 installed. The spread depends on three things: how many shingles need replacing, whether we’re on a two-story or steep-pitch roof, and whether the decking underneath needs repair. A single shingle on a walkable one-story roof sits at the lower end. A cluster of damaged shingles on a 10/12 pitch with decking repair sits higher.
Every quote includes the shingles, underlayment patch if needed, nails, sealant, the labor, and haul-away of the old material. There’s no add-on at the end. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we make it right. The shingles themselves carry whatever manufacturer warranty remains, and we’ll explain exactly what’s still covered before we write the number down.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check yourself: count the missing or damaged shingles, bag a damaged shingle to show us, and note which slope of the roof it came from. That helps us match faster and gives you a clearer picture before anyone climbs up.
Where DIY goes sideways on Atlas shingle repair: sealing a lifted shingle back down without checking the underlying condition, color-matching from a phone photo, and working on a steep San Antonio pitch without fall protection. We’ve repaired more than a few DIY patches where the homeowner used the wrong sealant and the shingle peeled back within the month. Roof work on a steep or two-story roof is genuinely dangerous. If you’re not comfortable on a ladder with tools in hand, call us at (903) 354-7802 and we’ll get eyes on it. Erik Lindgren is the kind of roofer who will walk you through every layer of the estimate before a single shingle comes off, because a written price and a straight answer, that’s where we start.
FAQs
Atlas architectural shingles like Pinnacle typically last 20 to 25 years in San Antonio, though south-facing slopes can give out a few years earlier due to UV stress and attic heat. Three-tab GlassMaster shingles generally run 15 to 20 years here. We can tell you honestly where your roof sits on that timeline after one inspection. Call (903) 354-7802 if you want that answer without any sales pressure.
Yes, individual Atlas shingles can be repaired or swapped without touching the rest of the roof, as long as the surrounding shingles are still sealing properly. The repair is quick, usually under two hours. If the seal strips around the damaged shingle have all failed, we’ll say so and give you a flat number to fix that zone instead.
Most single-shingle Atlas repairs take 60 to 90 minutes once we’re on site. A larger repair involving multiple shingles and decking inspection might run half a day. You’ll have a cleanup photo sent to you before the crew leaves, so there’s no wondering whether the job actually got finished.
We stock common Atlas colors and styles on the truck for emergencies, and we order specific color matches through our San Antonio supplier network when needed. We also work with materials from GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed when an Atlas match isn’t the right call. We’ll tell you which route we’re taking and what it costs before anything is ordered.
If you’ve got a failed Atlas shingle or just want a roofer to look before the next storm rolls through, call (903) 354-7802 for a free estimate. A live person answers, day or night. We’ll put shoe covers on at the door, lay down drop cloths through the hallway, and hand you a written price before we touch a thing.
