CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

CertainTeed shingle repair in San Antonio typically runs $350 to $850 installed, depending on how many shingles failed and whether the underlayment or flashing is involved. We stock CertainTeed-compatible shingles and matching accessories on our trucks, so most repairs are done in a single visit. Homeowners usually discover the problem after a Hill Country windstorm lifts a few tabs, or when a rusty nail pops through and starts a slow leak that shows up as a water stain on the ceiling.

Shingles don’t fail quietly in South Texas. Between the July heat that bakes the asphalt to brittle, the spring hailstorms that bruise the granule layer, and the occasional 40-mph gust off the Balcones Escarpment, a CertainTeed roof takes a beating. The good news: a failed shingle or a dozen doesn’t mean you need a new roof. It means you need the right match, the right sealant, and a crew that won’t leave granule dust in your hallway.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

We repair and match shingles across the CertainTeed residential lineup: the Landmark series (Landmark, Landmark Pro, Landmark Premium), the XT 25 and XT 30 three-tab lines, Presidential Shake, and Grand Manor. The most common in San Antonio are Landmark architectural shingles, and if your roof is between 10 and 20 years old, that’s probably what you have.

Here’s what matters for a clean match: CertainTeed changes dye lots over time, so a shingle manufactured in 2023 doesn’t always match one from 2018 exactly, even in the same color name. We keep a sample board in the truck and compare against your existing roof before we quote. If the match is off, we’ll tell you honestly and offer you options: accept a slight variation in an inconspicuous area, or pull shingles from a less visible roof slope to patch the front-facing section and install the new lot where nobody’s looking. For Landmark and XT lines, we carry most common San Antonio colors on the truck – Weathered Wood, Driftwood, Moire Black, and Heather Blend cover the large majority of roofs we see from Alamo Heights to Helotes.

Birchbark Roofing San Antonio is an independent roofing contractor. We’re not affiliated with or endorsed by CertainTeed, but we install and repair their products every week and know their compatibility quirks better than most.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules in your gutters or at downspout outlets. Texas UV breaks down the asphalt bond over time, and the ceramic granules start washing off. A pile of granules at the bottom of a downspout means your shingles are losing their sun armor and drying out faster every summer.
  • Curling or lifting shingle tabs. The adhesive strip CertainTeed uses to seal the tab to the shingle below it eventually hardens and fails. When tabs lift, wind gets underneath and starts peeling them back like a deck of cards. You’ll see it on the sunny south and west slopes first.
  • Water stains on ceilings or walls. By the time a stain shows inside, the shingle above has been letting water through for a while. The leak almost always traces back to a specific failed zone, not a failing whole roof, which makes targeted repair cost-effective.
  • Exposed or popped nails. Nails back out over time as the decking expands and contracts through San Antonio’s hot-cold cycle. A popped nail holds water and rusts, then the shingle above it splits.
  • Shingles missing after wind. Spring storm season here regularly creates lift-and-remove failure: the seal breaks, wind gets under the tab, and the shingle tears at the nail line. This is the easiest repair we do, and the one with the highest risk of hidden deck damage if it sat exposed through a rain.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most CertainTeed shingle repairs in San Antonio fall between $350 and $850. A simple tab re-seal or single-shingle replacement runs on the lower end. A repair involving 10 to 15 shingles, replacement underlayment, or a section of hip and ridge cap runs higher. You’ll see your exact number in writing before we start – every repair includes a written line-item price. No verbal estimates, no end-of-day surprises.

The price includes the shingles, any matching hip or ridge cap we need, replacement sealant, nails, and full debris cleanup. If we expose the underlayment and find additional damage, we stop and show you before adding anything to the scope. You’ll never get a change order without a conversation first. Every repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work isn’t right, we make it right. That’s stamped on the invoice, not just promised in the sales pitch.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s what’s worth doing yourself: check your gutters for granules, look for lifted tabs from ground level with binoculars, and note when stains appeared so we can trace the leak faster. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone.

Here’s what’s not worth doing yourself: getting on a pitched roof in San Antonio heat. The deck surface runs 30 to 40 degrees hotter than the air in July, shingles become slick with granule dust, and a fall from a single-story roofline is more than enough to change your life. Roof work belongs to someone with the right training, the right fall protection, and insurance that covers the work. Erik Lindgren’s crew carries all three on every job. Call (903) 354-7802 before you buy a ladder and a tube of sealant – we’ll come out, assess the damage, and give you a straight answer, even if that answer is “you don’t need us yet.”
