IKO Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have IKO shingles on your San Antonio roof and a section has failed, we stock and install IKO-compatible repair shingles to match your existing roof. Most IKO shingle repairs in San Antonio run between $350 and $850 installed, depending on how many shingles failed and whether the underlayment beneath them needs attention. We carry matching IKO colors on our trucks for the most common lines, and we can usually complete the repair the same day we diagnose it.
The way most San Antonio homeowners discover they need IKO shingle repair is not dramatic. A shingle comes loose after a spring windstorm, a corner curls after years of Texas sun, or a leak shows up as a small brown spot on the ceiling. You check the roof and see one or two shingles that clearly are not doing their job anymore. The rest of the roof looks fine. That is exactly the situation this page is for: a small, specific failure on an IKO roof that needs a correct match and a careful install, not a full replacement.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO makes several shingle lines, and the compatibility details matter when you are matching a repair. The architectural lines you will see most often on San Antonio roofs are Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic. The three-tab line is Marathon. Each line has a different shingle width and exposure, which means a Cambridge shingle will not sit correctly next to a Dynasty shingle even if the color looks close at a glance.
Here is the part that trips up a lot of homeowners: IKO colors carry the same name across lines but the granule blend shifts subtly between them. A Cambridge in “Dual Grey” is close to a Dynasty in “Dual Grey,” but side by side on a sunny afternoon you will see the difference. For a repair to disappear into the existing roof, you need the same line and the same color, and ideally the same production batch of the color. We check the bundle wrapper or the shingle dimensions on-site to verify the line before we pull stock. In some cases, especially with discontinued colors, a high-quality aftermarket match is the better call, and we will tell you plainly when that is true. We are an independent San Antonio roofing company and not affiliated with IKO, but we stock OEM IKO shingles where they are still produced and know which colors have been changed or retired.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules piling up in the gutter. A light sprinkle of granules is normal. A visible pile of dark granules at the downspout after a rain means the shingle surface is degrading faster than it should, usually from a manufacturing variance or severe hail. The shingle is losing its UV protection, and the repair window is now.
- A corner that will not stay flat. IKO architectural shingles are heavy and should lie flat even in wind. A corner that stays lifted after a storm usually means the sealant strip has failed or the shingle was nailed too high when it was installed. Wind gets under it, and every storm lifts it further.
- A shingle that has slid out of place. On hot San Antonio days, the asphalt in a shingle softens. If a shingle was overdriven or the nail heads were not set properly, the weight of the shingle can pull it down the roof plane slightly. You will see a gap at the top or a shingle sitting lower in the course than its neighbors.
- Water staining on the ceiling after a dry spell. A single failed IKO shingle can let water into the decking, and that water can travel before it shows itself. If a stain appears after three days of hard rain, the roof is the first place to look even if the stain is not directly under the roof’s worst section.
- Brittle, curling edges on the sun-facing slope. San Antonio’s south and west slopes take the brunt of the summer heat. Curling edges on those slopes specifically mean the shingle’s asphalt is drying out and losing flexibility. That is a shingle waiting to crack or tear in the next wind event.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most IKO shingle repairs we do in San Antonio fall between $350 and $850 installed. The range exists for real reasons. A simple two-shingle swap on a single-story walkable roof with matching stock on the truck sits at the lower end. A repair that requires removing damaged underlayment, replacing a section of decking, or working on a steep two-story slope lands higher. The number of shingles, the slope, the height, and whether the underlayment is compromised all move the price.
What you get for that price is a written quote before any work starts, not a number that grows on billing day. We replace the failed shingles, inspect the surrounding course for hidden damage, check the nails and sealant strip on adjacent shingles, and confirm the repair is water-shedding correctly before we come down. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not right, we make it right. You will also get a photo of the completed repair and the clean-up before the crew leaves.
DIY or Call Us?
There is a version of this repair you can do yourself, and there is a version you should not. What you can safely do from the ground or from a ladder: photograph the damaged section, note the shingle’s dimensions and color band if you can see it, and check the gutters for granule buildup. That information helps us bring the right stock on the first trip. What we do not recommend is walking a San Antonio roof in summer. The shingles are hot enough to soften the asphalt, a soft shingle tears easily under foot, and the risk of a fall is real. A fall off of even a one-story roof is a serious injury, and the hospital visit costs more than the repair. For the actual shingle work, especially on anything steeper than a 4:12 pitch, call us at (903) 354-7802. We will send a background-checked technician who does this specific job regularly.
FAQs
An IKO architectural shingle on a properly ventilated San Antonio roof typically lasts 20 to 25 years before widespread failure, though the sun-facing slopes may show aging earlier. Individual shingle failures can happen at any point in that lifespan from hail, wind, or installation issues, and those are worth repairing as they appear rather than waiting for the roof to fail wholesale.
A cracked shingle can sometimes be sealed, but in most cases the right fix is a full replacement of that shingle and any neighbors showing the same damage. Sealing over a crack does not restore the shingle’s water-shedding shape, and a patch looks like a patch. A proper replacement blends into the roof, which matters when you sell the home. Call (903) 354-7802 for a straight answer on your specific damage.
A standard IKO shingle repair takes 45 minutes to 2 hours for the on-roof work, plus time for the inspection and clean-up. Most San Antonio repairs are finished the same day we arrive. If the underlayment or decking needs attention, the job can extend to a half day, and we will tell you that in writing before we start.
We stock common IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colors on our trucks, plus select Marathon three-tab colors for older San Antonio homes. For less common colors or recently changed blends, we source OEM or close-match aftermarket stock from local suppliers, usually same-day. Send us a photo of the damage and we will confirm the match before the crew rolls out.
